Marie Galvin - GALVIN-ized Headwear
I had my first solo runway show in 10 years during Boston Fashion Week. I created a 36-piece collection in less than four weeks. The collection was a dedication to my cherished canine companion Petey.
I also created couture Bridal Collection with bridal headpieces. Being an Irish transplant in Boston, I’ve always catered to Europeans who wear hats to weddings.
However, the Royal wedding in April 2011 changed all that. We had Americans knocking down our door with frantic requests for modern European style headwear. We noticed that many Americans were intimidated and confused by what to wear to an English wedding.
Hats are a major fashion statement and can take the wearer from drab to fab by just the flick of a brim or the tilt of a hat.
When I lost my beloved Mr. Petey in June it became apparent to me how much of an inspiration he was. He came with me to work everyday and became GALVIN-ized Headwear’s mascot. He greeted the clients and was a charming, fun-loving well mannered Chihuahua. Mr. Petey made me see the world through his eyes as he encouraged me stop and smell the roses. Especially on cold winter morning walks past Boston’s South End town houses. The beautiful gothic wrought iron gates inspiring deconstructed feathers, sculptural felt fedoras and fantastical wired sculptured headpieces.
