ALL THAT GLITTERS

Designers went for the Gold at the recent runway shows in Paris and Milan. They sprinkled glitter, rhinestones and sequins all over models at the Giorgio Armani Privé, Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix and Chanel shows. At Lacroix models wore wigs with faux jewels. Hairstylist to the fashion set, Odile Gilbert was quoted as saying that “maybe people think they need sparkle in their life.”

Hello there: Do people need something to lift their spirits? I say yes, indeed. That’s why I like the idea of the straw visor with patent leather peak or gold peak (a la Eric Javits), as well as gold and silver knit visor caps. How about sun hats with gold or silver under-brims?

If you remember the late 80’s you will remember when everyone wore straw hats with jeweled stones, glitter and glitz. Well those days are surely to return. After all, there’s a war (or two), strife in Washington and points beyond, and gas prices are hitting all time highs. That’s why people will be turning to funky hats in brights and golden hues to lift their spirits. After all, some of them have already had everything else lifted by plastic surgeons.
