ONE MORE WEEK TO SEE THE SPATS, HATS AND PHOTOGRAPHS EXHIBIT AT THE BURROWS HOUSE IN NEWPORT OREGON

The "Spats, Hats, and Photographs: Father's Day in History" will be featured through June 23 in the Celebrations exhibit of the Burrows House Museum of the Lincoln County Historical Society.

The exhibit includes spats from the Nelson family, Siletz River settlers; a coin pouch from the Kentta family; shaving items from the late 1800s, 1920s, and 1950s and objects such as a 1900 Beaver Top Hat, 1900s derby, a mail carrier's hat and uniform; a leather collar and dickey front and necktie; pipes, cigar smoker, and snuff jar; and a briefcase and lunchbox, among others. Greeting cards from the 1950s illustrate many of the same symbols associated historically with fathers. Historic photographs of fathers with their children offer a glimpse into those early lives.
