BILL CUNNINGHAM
WENT ON A FASHION PHOTO SHOOT IN NEW YORK CITY
AND WOULDN’T YOU KNOW HE TURNED UP WITH
BAROQUE PRINTS
Cunningham describes it best: “fin de sècle
textile patterns and Art Nouveau movement have
injected a new spirit into the current rigid style
of fashion. The most stunning example, large photo
at right, was worn last month by the New Yorker
Ingrid Yonke, it was hand-painted to duplicate
the cut-velvet 1900 Worth gown next to it, now
on view in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s
British fashion exhibition.”
“Spring clothes are echoing the flourishes
of gates, like the one above, one of the beauties
at Old Westbury Gardens, on Long Island. Exotic
flowers like the black iris, bottom left, called
"Hello Darkness," and the vines of scarlet
nasturtiums were just a couple of nature’s
influences on textiles of the Art Nouveau period.”
Well put. If I were to put in my
two cents I would say that Print headwear a la
Pucci should be in the forefront of your hat collections
for women. Colorful prints and historic black
and white graphics are a must. Why not consider
it an artist palette for the head. Think Picasso
for 2007.
