GENA CONTI PINK SINAMAY HAT CHOSEN FOR KENTUCKY DERBY MUSEUM EXHIBIT

Gena Conti does it again - she wowed the judges with her ability to romance the art of hat making. Her hat, the “Audrey,” is made of four layers of light pink sinamay straw, black vintage couture veiling, dyed peacock flue feathers and rhea tail feathers. A rhinestone pin, pink and black butterflies and ostrich feather spines are also on board this elaborate head piece.

The hat will be in the Kentucky Derby Museum for its 2007-2008 “Derby Hats” Exhibit that runs till the end of June 2008. Conti’s hats have made it into the exhibit for the past five years.

“The Kentucky Derby Museum Annual Hat Exhibit highlights one of the Derby’s most glamorous traditions, the exquisite hats worn on race day.” Hat entries of all types from designers around the world include men’s or ladies styles and are submitted for competition each May.

“... We're delighted to be chosen once again this year … our fifth consecutive year entering the competition,” reports Gena Conti. The Kentucky Derby is one of the USA’s millinery highlights of the year. With the record-breaking increase of both worldwide hat sales and the growth of working milliners, the competition gets tougher each season. For the last five years, I've thought we will never make the time limit for entry into the competition."

The museum receives over 200,000 visitors annually.

The Kentucky Derby Museum is at Gate 1 of Churchill Downs. Call (502) 637-1111 or derbymuseum.org.
