WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT A JEANS COMPANY WOULD BE WORTH $775 MILLION?

If you remember the faded jeans craze of the past few years then you may remember one of the coolest cats around was Seven For All Mankind. Well, it seems that this brand (that came out of nowhere a few years’ ago) was just sold to VF Corporation for $775 million.

The Greensboro, N.C.-based apparel giant said it expects to pay $775 million for Seven For All Mankind, which projects revenues of $300 million this year, and an additional $110 million for Lucy, with anticipated 2007 revenues of $57 million.

Eric Wiseman, president and CEO of VF, said, “The formation of the VF contemporary brands coalition, with over $350 million in annual revenues, marks our commitment to building new platforms for sustainable growth. We will invest in the potential of both the Seven For All Mankind and Lucy brands, and also plan to acquire other brands that will enhance the portfolio of this new coalition.”

It goes to show you, that the bottom line is attached in some way to the bottom line. If only hat companies could draw in that kind of cash, it would be a great day in the factory.

To think that women with a desire to dress-up their derrières could generate $300 million in sales a year, that’s big stuff.
