NATIONAL UNDERWEAR DAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS: HOW ABOUT A NATIONAL HAT DAY?

I just happened to be in New York City last week and was lucky enough to attend a brilliant promotion for the underwear industry called Freshpair’s National Underwear Day.

Held in the heart of Times Square, the event celebrated the sexiness of undergarments with a fashion show (yes in full view of tourists and business people on a large stage), an underwear give-a-way (they gave out women’s and men’s underwear in a tent), free bottled water and a coupon worth 10 percent off a purchase from freshpair.com.

Participants in the National Underwear Day Festivities were: Cotton Incorporated, Barely There, Hanes, Go Softwear, Paul Frank, Male Power, Report Collection, Shape Magazine, Anthony For Men and Makeup Designory.

The August 7th event was the fifth anniversary of the Freshpair’s National Underwear Day and included a new charitable program – Freshpair, Freshstart – to help provide basic necessities to people in need. From 11 am to 2 pm male and female models walked the catwalk in underwear from Wacoal, Le Mystère, Natori, DT Clothes and Chantelle. There were also changing stations set up for eager passersby’s to change into a free, fresh pair of underwear from C-IN2, Diesel, and Ginch Gonch.

People walking by (and there were so many people that scorching day) also learned about Freshpair, Freshstart program committed to providing basic, practical necessities.

Freshpair, www.freshpair.com is an online retailer of men’s and women’s intimate apparel with 100 brands. Freshpair is also the founder of National Underwear Day.

If you want to know their motive and message read on:

“Our message at Freshpair is the belief that underwear deserves a lot more recognition than it gets. Americans spend more than $13 billion on intimate apparel each year and for that kind of money, we feel it is our duty to tell the world. With National Underwear Day, we've taken underwear out of the dresser drawer and into the streets - by sending twenty male and female models out clad only in our finest undergarments.”

“In the heat of Manhattan summer, our underwear ambassadors wander through heavily-trafficked locales modeling some of today's hottest brands for unsuspecting - yet pleasantly surprised - shoppers, tourists and die-hard New Yorkers who think they've 'seen it all'...until now. More than just eye candy, our models conducted various surveys on undergarment choices and asked people to sign a petition which urges official recognition of this underwear-honoring day.”

WHAT ABOUT A NATIONAL HAT DAY?
Why not give away hats and get sponsors to support the event and share the cost. National Hat Day sponsors might include SUNSCREEN companies, UMBRELLA companies, BEACH BAG companies, plastic surgeons, etc.

I ALSO HAVE AN IDEA FOR A POSTER:

IF YOU THINK THAT THIS OFFERS PROTECTION (show a picture of a condom), WELL YOUR WRONG: SKIN CANCER AFFECTS ONE MILLION PEOPLE A YEAR – 8000 OF THEM WILL DIE.

THE NAKED COWBOY WAS MODELING UNDERWEAR AND POSING FOR PICTURES

The sexy fellow gets paid $1000 per hour to show-off different companies underwear in Times Square. He told me he makes $250,000 a year modeling and selling apparel on his website.

The truth is it was pretty warm that day and the Naked Cowboy seemed like the only one who was keeping cool – both literally and figuratively.
