FLORAL HEADDRESSES MAKE THE CHARITY SCENE IN NYC

In case you were wondering, flowers make great headwear. We found that out last week in NYC at the 6th Annual "Tulips & Pansies - The Headdress Affair.” This annual event pairs floral designers and apparel designers together to create outrageous headwear for a good cause. Proceeds from this floral fete (that took place at the South Street Seaport restaurant Bridgewaters) goes to Village Care of New York (www.vcny.org).

Designers Diane von Furstenberg, Heatherette, Bill Blass (Michael Volbrecht was the standing in literally for Blass who is not on this physical plane anymore), Alvin Valley, Lela Rose, up-and-coming designer Jordi Scott and others lent their design savvy to the foliage of choice. The event, hosted by The Style Network's James Aguiar, was co-chaired by Paper magazine Deputy Editorial Director Mickey Boardman and creative stylist Kate Schelter.

There was a high-fashion runway show with tall willowy models in floral headdresses made of living plants and fresh cut flowers. And enough Rums of Puerto Rico drinks to satisfy the thirst of everyone on Noah’s Ark (they even took our pictures in these large flowery hats).

It was a great event high above the water of the Seaport and the Side walks of lower Manhattan. If you want to get involved next year (and that would be great for a hat designer) contact them at: www.vcny.org or call 212-337-5743

Participating floral & event designers were: Banchet Flowers, Flora Tech, Floral Icon Events, Imperial Court of New York, Kristin Barrett Brown Design, L'Olivier, Ovando, Scentsational Designs, Studio Artiflora, Renny and Reed, The Daily Blossom, The Designer's Co-op and Verde Custom Flowers.
