SHOWS HERALDED FASHION WITH STYLE AND COMMON SENSE

| Paul Smith |
This is what they saw on the runway: “Tangerine
mohair jumpers, canary yellow clogs, knee-length
patterned skirts and fur boleros were shown for
men this season.
Tangerine mohair jumpers were at Prada and Trench
coats with military detailing (brass buttons,
epaulettes) as well.
Black patent shoes hit the catwalk - John Major
grey is the color of the season and on the catwalk
it was yellow.
VELVET - “Everybody has velvet this season,”
says Peter Nyhan, general merchandise manager
for menswear at Harrods. At Dolce & Gabbana
it was head-to-toe midnight blue, at Paul Smith
it was moss-colored jackets - Also muted colors
plum, navy, black and mossy green.

THREE-PIECE SUITS The return of the English gentleman
– the waistcoat is back and so is the bowler
hat. “Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga’s
three-piece suits are leading examples of winter’s
strong tailoring trend. With double-breast-ed
waistcoats and single-button jackets, this trend
can also be deconstructed into separates,”
says Stacey Smith, the menswear buyer at the London
designer boutique Matches.
PATENT ACCESSORIES on the runway are permanently
shiny, waterproof, casual and formal. “Patent
gives an opportunity to fight back against the
dreary onset of winter,” says accessories
designer Oliver Sweeney. “It’s great
that the classic patent dress shoe has made it
as an everyday choice with jeans,” confirms
Sweeney. “Since it has been in our stores
it's been flying off the shelves.”
