COLOR MAKES THE MAN

We just happened to be reading Town & Country Magazine and came across an interesting slice of fashion life. It seems that the men’s market is poised to take on pastel shades of color.

Jay Kos, the Manhattan retailer, went to Capri, Italy and came back smitten with pastel colors for men shoes. They’re a bit Bobby Darin and a bit Dick Clark - but there is no discounting the impact of pastel shades of lime green, pink, blue and pink shoes. There will be red as well.

According to Kos the reason men are afraid of color is because they don’t know to incorporate it into their wardrobes, “it has to be done very differently from the way women use color,” he said. “When a man wears colors like these he needs to establish a contrast. With a pair of pink buckskin shoes he should consider wearing a blue seersucker suit or a cotton khaki suit.”

With younger men taking on a more feminine persona this could work well in headwear. The line between what is acceptable fashion for men and women has been blurred for a long time. After all, men are now staying home to change diapers and cook meals, are pastel shoes or hats such a stretch? I think not.
