BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCKED TOGETHER – ESPECIALLY AT THE DESIGNER RUNWAY SHOWS

Feathers flew into high gear last week at the fall-winter 2008 collections. Ostrich, pheasant and peacock plumes adorned hats at Carolina Herrera and Ralph Lauren and hair accessories at Marc by Marc Jacobs. Feathers also showed up as ornamental trim at Carmen Marc Valvo, Donna Karan and on dresses at Bill Blass, Monique Lhuillier and Carlos Miele.

The good news is that HATS continue to be top fashion talk. Wool berets and knit caps are being paired with high brow dressing at designer fashion labels like never before. Other key trends at the shows – real and faux fur, sequins, beads, metallic threads, shimmering finishes, tweeds, trousers in hound’s-tooth and glen plaid, rainbow colors such as purple, blue, red and yellow.

Carolina Herrera took the city girl and introduced her to the country by way of feathered trim fedoras and luxe fabrics. Colors seen on the runway were oatmeal brown, china blue, yellow, rust and shades of brown.
