THE BOSTON HERALD HAILS HEADWEAR
FOR FALL – THAT’S THE GOOD NEWS
Let’s face it, there is a recession brewing
over the horizon. But the hat could very well
be recession proof - it’s fun, relatively
affordable and can change an outfit and an attitude.
We were thrilled to find the following article
from the Boston Herald, called “Hats’
Amore - Fashionistas brimming with excitement
over designers’ headwear.”
NEW YORK - Dust off the hatpins, ladies.
After several bareheaded seasons, designers are
bringing back the beret. And fedora. And cloche.
The early scene at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
here was brimming with felt millinery. Carolina
Herrera’s country-inspired collection was
a grand display of feathered headwear. Felt fedoras
were set off with dramatic plumes, with some feathers
extending beyond the hat, while other quills stood
at attention.
If Herrera’s hats evoked peacocks, the
look at Tracy Reese was more demure. Felt berets
were perched at a jaunty angle atop models as
they strutted the runway in a palette of blue
and burnt orange. There were a few beautiful chiffon
dresses, but the drop-pleat skirts dragged down
the retro look.
Diane Von Furstenberg looked abroad for inspiration.
Her pleated felt hats topped sharp-shouldered
jackets and gauzy chiffon dresses.
Beaded mini flapper dresses were among the shortest
in the show. But everyone was looking up - at
what may be the must-have accessory of the season.
