HAT EXHBIT OPENS THIS WEEK IN UTAH

Women of many hats: An exhibition of photographs of African-American women opens Friday at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W. 3100 South, West Valley City. "CROWNS: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats" is a series of 30 photographs by Michael Cunningham with Craig Marberry's interviews with the women.

“The show celebrates the cultural tradition of African-American women worshipping in hats ranging from the simple to the ornate.”

Also on display - Utah's Crowns Photo Exhibit - featuring women from the Salt Lake Valley donning their own colorful hats. The center will host an opening reception, with food and entertainment, Jan. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The show will continue through Feb. 28 and is co-sponsored by Salt Lake Community College's Grand Theatre, which is staging the musical "Crowns" from Jan. 25 to Feb. 9. For more information, call 801-965-5100 or visit www.culturalcenter.org.
