100 BLACK WOMEN PLANS FUNDRAISER
The
Pensacola Chapter of the National Coalition of
100 Black Women will host its annual hat show
fundraiser at New World Landing on Aug. 10. This
show has been the organization's signature fundraiser
since 2001, providing the non-profit organization
an opportunity to award scholarships to more than
100 black high school seniors. This year marks
their 15th anniversary.
To celebrate the tradition in the black community
of wearing a hat to church, the coalition has
chosen as its 2008 theme, "Women and Men
in Church Hats."
Women and men will don fancy, sassy, trendy,
unique, big, stylish and "hattitude"
hats and vie for prizes. Other hat categories
added over the years include Best Male Hat, Most
Creative Male Hat, Best Youth Hat and Most Creative
Female Hat.
In addition to these categories, one of the hat
judges will select five hats worthy of honorable
mention. Tickets are $25. Wear a hat, enjoy lunch
and win a door prize. For information call Mamie
Hixon at 850- 433-3324.
