THE HEADWEAR ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES HAT DAY IN THE SUN ON JUNE 20TH

The Headwear Association will distribute sun protective hats nationwide to promote the benefits of wearing headwear.

The THA is launching their “Hat Day in the Sun™” campaign on Friday, June 20. The purpose is to generate public awareness of how hats protect against skin cancer, premature skin damage and aging. (A no-brainer for those of us who wear hats).

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 90 percent of all skin cancers are caused by sun exposure. “There’s a big push for consumers to wear sunscreen, but it is just as important to also wear a hat to protect against the sun,” said Bob Broner, president of The Headwear Association. “A wide-brimmed hat will provide good shade to the face, back of the neck, eyes and ears.”

Complimentary hats will be distributed (while supplies last) in the following markets:

East:
New York, Philadelphia/South Jersey, Wildwood Crest, N.J., New Haven, Conn. Lancaster, Pa., Stanton, Del.

Midwest:
Chicago, Detroit

Southeast:
Boca Raton, Fla.

South:
Fort Worth, Texas

West:
Los Angeles, San Diego, Carlsbad, Calif., Laughlin, Nev.

HERE’S THE DEAL FOR HEADWEAR COMPANIES:
We are hoping to generate a lot of media coverage with Hat Day in the Sun and are asking THA members to participate in this summer educational initiative. If your company is willing to take part in this campaign, we would need a few things from you:

Choose a beach, park or other high-traffic outdoor area in your community to distribute wide-brimmed, sun protection hats.

Please provide: Name and address of location, what time you will be distributing the hats, and how many hats you will be distributing.

We will use this information in a news release and post it on the THA website. We will also provide you with a media alert template that you can customize with local information to send to your local media.

All are invited to get involved with the THA – contact them if you want to be a part of these promotional activities.
