HIP WEBSITE DAILY CANDY GIVES HATS THE HEADS UP

Hats have their detractors and their aficionados these days. Some people won’t wear them (and frequently say things like ‘I don’t look good in hats’ or ‘hats flatten my hair’) and other people adore hats and find them to be a real fashion zinger.

For those of us with bad hair days or bad hair lives, the hat is a girl’s (or a fella’s) best friend.

Because hats are in the news (and on top of mind for young people) we thought you might want to hear what Daily Candy just said about them. In case you didn’t know it, this trendy little fashion blog for the hip and restless was just sold for $125 million.

So when Daily Candy says hats are hip, you almost have to believe them.

Here’s the Daily Candy scoop on headwear.

“Generally speaking, once something reaches Urban or La Lohan, it’s already on its way out (see leggings).

Which is what we thought about the fedora - until Asli Filinta tossed her hats into the ring.

A Turkish sweetheart with a nonconformist edge, Filinta designs whimsical toppers in her Brooklyn apartment. The chapeaux start with basic forms (fedora, riding hat) then get gussied up with details from Istanbul (appliqués, feathers, metallic trims).

Butterfly Mornings, a straw cap adorned with a dainty flower and gemmed insect, is the proper accessory for Sunday best. Albert has colorful quills and a zebrafied elephant. Our favorite, Holiday, is a jaunty mix of lace, plumes, beads, and sequins on a purplish trilby.

Such intricacies never go out of style.”
