MARC
JACOBS DOES VINTAGE FOR SPRING 09
Marc Jacobs had a celebrity-packed
audience at the New York State Armory to view
his collection for spring ‘09.
The kaleidoscopic blended hints
of Suzie Wong, Carmen Miranda, and Mary Poppins
with a dash of Asian spice, a suggestion of tight-waisted,
1940’s secretary style and a dash of color
from the Jazz Age.
Other
celebrities included Winona Ryder, Nicole Richie,
Helena Christiansen and Elijah Wood. Jacobs' used
high waist, tightly-wrapped in multi-colored obi-sashes
or cinched with elaborate, leather corset-belts.
Skirts were long, pencil-thin, buttoned
and bowed, or fitted with an uptown version of
a washerwoman's 'apron', and worn with waistcoats
and jackets with beaded cuffs, trouser suits in
grey were finished with elaborate, jeweled, lame
sashes.
There was a mix of metallic brocades,
polka-dots, jeweled tweeds, leopard-prints, stripes
and exotic butterfly-prints.
The straw and flower, pancake hats
and Middle Europe head-scarves were shown with
fringed, tasseled tapestry bags, lace-up boots
and metallic ankle-strap stilettos.
