WOULD YOU BELIEVE A NEBRASKA COUNCIL MEMBER WAS KICKED OUT OF A MEETING BECUASE HE WORE A HAT?

A man in David City, who is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, was banned from a meeting because he would not take off his hat.

David City Council Member Bill Scribner was kicked out of a meeting Wednesday night for wearing a hat. He wears his Navy hat to every meeting.

"It reminds me what I've done with my life and what I can do to help others," Bill said.

Bill is proud of serving his country, but not proud of the Mayor's decision to ban hats from council meetings. When he refused to take his off, police even escorted him out of the room.

"There are a lot of people who have died giving their life for their country, and I have a right to wear this hat," he said.

Mayor Dana Throwbridge has a different view.

"We are running a 9-million-dollar budget in this city, not the corner pool hall," he said. "It's simply an etiquette issue. It's a respect issue. Not particularly respect for me, but respect for the meeting," he added.

But it's Bill's respect for the United States that he says will keep the hat on his head, even at the next meeting.

"This hat is not coming off," he said.

Bill already contacted the sheriff and the Nebraska Attorney General claiming his right's are being violated.

Meanwhile the mayor says he's standing his ground, and is not going to allow any hats at meetings.

They must be pretty bored in Omaha, Nebraska. Why else would they make such a big deal over a hat? Go figure.
