	H&M Group Profit Plummets, Sales Tumble in Latest Quarter. The Stockholm, Sweden company said after tax profit fell 12 per cent. The decline was the first time in five years that H&M scored a drop in quarterly profits. If you’ve been to the H&M store lately, then this news will not surprise you. I checked out the Fifth Avenue store last week and could not believe that the Forever 21 chain had surpassed them like a jet passes a turtle.
	The government said consumers increased spending for a second straight month in February even though their incomes slipped. The latest two-month performance marked the first time that the savings rate has been above 4 percent for two consecutive months in more than a decade. The back-to-back increases in consumer spending in January and February followed six straight declines in spending that occurred from July through December. A price gauge tied to consumer spending rose by 0.3 percent in February and was up 0.2 percent excluding food and energy, indicating that the recession has contributed to a significant moderate in inflation pressures.
	Helen Kaminski now makes hatboxes and carry bags from recycled materials and will display the international symbol for recycling. Beginning in 2009 Helen Kaminski has committed to using FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified “environmentally responsible” paper for product catalogues whenever possible. The FSC is an independent, nongovernmental organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Paper with an FSC “mixed sources” certification is made from wood from FSC-certified forests, controlled sources that are in accordance with FSC standards, and/or recycled material.
	Check out the sale at accessory store Cleo & Patek at 68 Spring Street in Soho. They are currently running a great sale of boots, bags by French designers and a shop filled with goodies at pretty low prices.
