of Desire. |
The Kentucky Derby is only four weeks away…so
here are the latest hat happenings:
Objects of Desire Gallery is celebrating the launch
of its 2009 Kentucky Derby hat collection with
an in-store party from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday,
April 4.Shoppers will find more than 100 hats and
fascinators by Australian milliner Katerina Miaoulis
of Memsahib Millinery.
There will be tips on hair and hat-wearing
courtesy of Joseph's Salon & Spa and cocktails
from Dumante Verdenoce Liqueurs.
Miaoulis, whose hats have been featured on the
runway and in national fashion magazines, will
be at Objects of Desire (1503 Bardstown Road) April
21 through May 1 to assist customers with selections
and fittings.
The stylish hats featured in this year's Kentucky
Oaks and Kentucky Derby posters are the inspiration
for "Hats Gone Wild" — a collection
that includes tote and hobo bags and a wallet,
mini cosmetic/eyeglass case, coin purse and luggage
tag.
The items are embellished with colorful hats and
the races' signature roses and stargazer lilies.
They also feature a custom Kentucky Derby lining
and silvertone zipper pull.
The "Hats Gone Wild" line is available
at Macy's in Oxmoor Center, A Taste of Kentucky
stores, the gift shop at the Kentucky Derby Museum,
Ladybug and Celebrations.
Recycle your Derby hat
No need to toss that hat you wore to the Kentucky
Derby last year. Instead, give it a makeover on
Friday, April 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Kentucky
Museum of Art and Craft.
Local hat designer Vicky Hoskinson of Piece by
Piece Designs will help customers jazz up their
gently worn hats using her vast collection of feathers,
flowers, ribbons and other embellishments. She'll
also have new designs on hand.
Shoppers can also purchase Derby hats by Ann deVuono,
Jill Henning, Angie Schultz, Lisa Battaglia, Louise
Green and Sarah Havens. The museum is at 715 W.
