THE INTERNATIONAL POLO CLUB PALM BEACH HOSTED A HAT CONTEST SUNDAY

Brenda Lynn, the Director of Development for the
Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame in Wellington Florida

If you love horses, fashion, spectator sports or just hanging out in the sun, head over to The International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida. It just so happens that fashion has been mating with polo this season due to the fact that The Gardens Mall and Saks Fifth Avenue have been showing off their wares in the Ocean Drive tent.

The IPCPB even had a Lilly Pulitzer Day (April 5th) that celebrated the opening of Pulitzer’s new Gardens Mall store. To celebrate Lilly’s 50 years of style they customized a Lilly Jeep™ with whimsical patterns that made this Palm Beach woman such a fashion icon.

The fashion events this season included trunk shows, informal fashion shows in the Ocean Drive tent and at the Veuve Clicquot Half Time Divot Stomp. The finals of the US Open Polo Championships™ will be on April 26 (so if you’re close by head on over). If you have not been to a Divot Stomp you must try it out. Polo spectators go on the field during half time and stomp on the grass that the horses have kicked up – and you get Veuve Clicquot Champagne and Whole Foods ice-cream bars (decadent it is).

I just happened to be at The International Polo Club Palm Beach last weekend to photograph and talk to hat aficionados. Many of the hats were of the Scala and Callanan brand (hats off to you). A few men had one query: “What do we do with our hats when we are at a restaurant or an event; there are not hat racks anymore.” Food for thought, huh?

Every Sunday at 3PM games are played on field one at the International Polo Club and is open to the public. Tickets and information can be obtained at 561-204-5687 or www.internationalpoloclub.com.
