STEAMPUNK GOES BACK TO BE PRESENT

There’s a new revolution going on that hinges on eliminating the technology and mentality of the past 100 years. Called Steampunk, it harkens back to the Victorian era.

The movement is about things that are handmade, elegant, romantic and simplistic. There are Steampunk house wares, music, Victorian fashions, blogs (Brass Goggles and Heliograph) gatherings (steam-con), novels, comic books and 27 steampunk iPhone apps.

A museum in Oxford, England has an exhibition of steampunk art and steampunk gatherings (Comic-Con) are cropping up all over the country.

“Steampunk substitutes metal for silicon, pneumatic tubes for 3G and wi-fi. It maximizes what was miniaturized and makes visible what was hidden. It isn't mass-produced, it’s like a snapshot from the last moment in human history when technology was intelligible to the layman,” said a Time Magazine article this month.
