NEWS TO NOTE

Outerwear and sportswear retailer Eddie Bauer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on June 17.

The people have spoken, and I think it’s safe to say we are definitely in belt tightening territory. Eddie Bauer is an American Retail icon and it is amazing that they have succumbed to the countries new frugalness.

The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History is asking for donations of various amounts for the MLFH Tenth Anniversary 10 for $10 campaign. This campaign was recently launched by MLFH as a way for you to support its cultural arts endeavors.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the MLFH and donations are still needed for a temporary facility and for the educational exhibits planned at that site.

Your contributions to the "10 for $10" Campaign in any amount will be most helpful. You can make a secure donation online by visiting MLFHMUSEUM.org. Or you can send a check payable to the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History at P.O. Box 6127, Delray Beach, Florida 33482.

Please share this information with others and ask them to support this unique cultural arts organization that has brought quality programs to the area including traveling exhibitions from the Smithsonian Institution.

MLFH is the only museum in Palm Beach County that is approved to host exhibits from the Smithsonian. A permanent home for the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History was one of the founder’s daughter's final wishes (before she passed away. The foundation is called The Patricia Ann Ravo Fund).

”Your support will allow us to operate in a temporary location and to reach the goal of building a permanent museum facility. The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization so donations are tax-deductible.

To learn more about donating and giving opportunities to the Museum, visit the website at MLFHMUSEUM.org or call 561-243-2662.

Sincerely,

Pat and Milla-Antoinette
(Parents of Patricia Ann Ravo)

HAT CAMP HURRAH:
Hat Camp just finished and according to Daria Wheatley, “it was a blast.” The weather in Seattle was sunny and warm, the gardens exuberant almost to the point of chaos, and a tour of milliner's studios meant a tour of Seattle neighborhoods.

It all started in Ballard, at the New York Fashion Academy, but before it was over, we'd been to Carol Campbell's studio in Fremont, Izzie Lewis' in West Seattle, Jean Hick's in the Central District and Annie De Vuono's in Wallingford.
Saturday evening's show was busy and lively and Ballard was hopping. We talked as much millinery as we could in the time allotted -- blocks and blocking, resources, etc., and the future of millinery. We'd like to thank everyone who made a place in their schedules and budgets to attend.

MELET MERCANTILE, a vintage clothing and collectibles showroom in SoHo, has operated quietly for six years, opening its doors only by appointment to select designers, stylists and collectors.

Now they have a shop in Montauk, N.Y. in an old garage. The store is an ode to beach culture, with rare surfboards and sailing artifacts displayed alongside vintage sundresses, T-shirts, frayed cutoffs and ’70s-style board shorts.

“It has a clubhouse feel,” said Bob Melet, the owner. “It’s a place to gather and hang out. It’s meant to be fun.”

Melet Mercantile, 102 Industrial Road, Montauk. Open Thursday to Sunday and by appointment during the week; (631) 668-9080.

Hat Fair launched at Winchester's Hotel du Vin: The event will offer four days and hundreds of performances from over 40 national and international companies along the city's ancient streets.

Named after the tradition of throwing donations into performers' hats, the free festival will take place in the UK’s Winchester Hotel du Vin from July 2 to July 5.

The fair is the UK's longest running street theatre festivals. Highlights of this year's events include Los Dos Play, an acrobatic comedy act from Spain and the return of Winchester favorites 'Heliosphere'.
