| THE BIG HAT MAKES A BIG FASHION STATEMENT

We have Chelsea Clinton, Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock to thank for making the big floppy hat a fashion statement by default. WWD and New "York Magazine" both made a big deal out of this big brimmed hat.
New York Magazine called it the "summer's hat attack because it seems that if ever there was a summer to get over your fear of hats, this is it."
Here is what they said:
"Chelsea Clinton and Julia Roberts are single-handedly bringing back the straw hat. Both have been spotted recently wearing Hat Attack chapeaus.
Paparazzi snapped Chelsea visiting the Vera Wang showroom last week — for a wedding dress fitting — with one of the company's floppy-brimmed hats pulled low over her face.
And Julia wears a Hat Attack raffia fedora in her new movie, "Eat Pray Love," which opens Aug. 13.
And WWD had this to say about the hat and Clinton.
"Who do we thank for the spectacular image of Chelsea Clinton popping into Vera Wang's studio wearing a raffia headpiece that awesomely enveloped almost her entire head?
The aptly named Hat Attack, that's who. That's the label that made the $80 Raffia Sun Hat Chelsea wears in the picture. (And if any hat can be said to attack, it's that one.)
Hat Attack also made the floppy raffia fedora Julia Roberts wears in the sap-fest* that will be the Eat Pray Love movie. Hat Attack says orders are up since images of Roberts in the hat came out, and the same thing is likely to happen with Chelsea's model.
And why shouldn't they spark a big floppy-hat craze? Giant hats are perfect for summer hiding — like if you're at the pool and a stranger tries to say silly things to you, you can just turn your brim down, get back to your book, and pretend you're not in their presence.
Not that this will stop us from seeing it without shame by any means. You?
Chelsea Clinton Spotted Visiting Vera Wang's Showroom, Most Likely for Secret Wedding Conversations
WWD snapped Chelsea visiting Wang's showroom in an awesomely giant floppy hat that hid her face and most of her hair. However, you can see poking out underneath the back of the hat a cluster of curls pinned into an updo — just like she might wear at her wedding.
So folks this is the latest gossip about large hats. Expect more in the days and weeks to come. And that is what you call "Good Gossip." Another piece of news, the hat worn by Bullock was made by San Diego Hat Company.
