DeAnna Gibbons Hat Making Workshops for 2011

March 16th - Restoration Workshop
If only I could repair my vintage chapeau...
1-night workshop, $75.00 (deposit $50.00) Wednesday 6-10 PM

You will have the opportunity to transform several of your modern and vintage hats. The emphasis will be on cleaning, steaming and repairing misshapen hats, refurbishing and replacing veils and trims.

This workshop teaches the basic millinery skills to repair damaged straw, felt and fabric hats. Basic repair materials and tools will be provided, if you have any specialty materials you would like to replace on your hats please bring them.

September 15th to 22nd - Felt Draping Workshop - Make the hat of your dreams 2-night workshop, 300.00

Learn free-form draping and hand sewing skills needed to create a soft draped felt velour hat that fits perfectly. Using steam and a basic head shaped block students will learn to make a small or large brimmed draped felt hat of their own design. This workshop is appropriate for the novice or continuing student who would like a chance to further their millinery skills. If you would like to work with a color other than black please make your request when sending the registration form.

May 28th Millinery Bouquet Workshop
Make a floral fascinator for an evening out - 1-day workshop, $150.00

Learn to create a flower trimmed floral mini or decorative headband. There will be an emphasis on designing and constructing the headband or hat base with professional millinery techniques. The basic hat, headband and construction materials will be provided. Students are asked to bring their own fabric flowers to the workshop, a list of flower sources will be provided after registration.

Monika Stebbins of Monika Fine Millinery

Monika Stebbins of Monika Fine Millinery has students showcasing the hats they made in her classes at the Madison Public Library in Madison, New Jersey through February.

Stebbins has been teaching millinery at the Adult School of the Chathams, Madison and Florham Park.

Stebbins went to millinery school for three years in Germany and took a master class taught by Shirley Hex and Stephen Jones, whose hats have been worn by celebrities from Boy George to Princess Diana, Marilyn Manson and Beyonce Knowles.

On April 19, she will offer a single-session class called "Trim Your Easter Bonnet." Students are asked to bring an untrimmed hat and decorations they want to add to the hat, such as flowers, ribbon, fabric, lace, birds and Easter eggs.

Stebbins also offers individual lessons at her studio in Madison.
