BIG HEADED HAT CUSTOMERS SEEKING LARGER HATS: Perhaps it’s all the brainpower we have today, but larger hats are in bigger demand than ever before. That’s good news for nine-year-old hat manufacturer Big Head Caps®. The Big Head Caps Company domestically manufactures and imports ball caps, straw hats, bucket hats, knit caps and a limited supply of felt hats. The hats come in sizes 7½ to 8½. “Most regular sized hats and caps stop around 7½ to 7¾. The difference between 7½ and 8½ is 3¼ inches around the head,” said owner Don Pearson. Big Head Caps offers a Panama straw hat in a 3 to 4XL size. The company has grown from a small start-up company due to its internet presence.” Owner Don Pearson says sales of larger- sized hats have been so good he opened a warehouse in Murfreesboro TN. Retail stores can order small quantities of caps to fulfill the "12% of the male population that can’t wear regular sized caps." Nationally syndicated radio show "What Do Ya Know" with Michael Feldman on public radio routinely offers the "Big Head Cap" as a prize. Big Head Caps provides a niche product for entertainers such as Jay Leno, Oprah, Conan, Rosy, Phil Donahue, George Foreman and many NFL and NBA players. Wholesale customers include embroidery, sporting goods and internet mail order companies. Big Head Caps is teaming up with licensed companies to offer logo headwear. “Large hat manufacturers use Big Head Caps for small quantity large- sized hat orders, avoiding small runs for bigger sized hats. With Americans getting bigger, the XXXL size market is literally growing and this includes headwear.” Contact Don at www.Bigheadcaps.com - their wholesale site: www.Bigheadcaps.net - 2159 Thompson Lane B-3 - Murfreesboro, TN 37129 or call: 888-BIGHEAD or Phone: 615-890-1018 - Fax 615-890-9932. The company began in 1996 when owner Don Pearson found it almost impossible to find a baseball cap that would fit his size 8 head. “I created this company after years of being victimized against those of us who have been blessed with big heads,” said Pearson, whose hat no longer fits too tightly on his head!”

DELMAR RACES TO THE FINISH LINE WITH HAT CONTEST: This year's Delmar horse racing season kicked off with an all-time record attendance. Over 40,682 people showed up for the high-stakes competition, which included a traditional HAT CONTEST at old Del Mar. One of the big opening day attractions was The One and Only Truly Fabulous Hat Contest. "We've got ladies paying (hat makers) $5,000 and $10,000 to make them hats," said a spokesperson. Prizes are awarded each year for Most Glamorous, Best Fresh Flowers, Best Racing Theme, and Funniest/Most Outrageous hats. "It's very popular," he said. "We get hundreds of entries." WHO SAYS HATS DON’T MAKE GREAT PROMOTIONAL EVENTS….of course the Oceanside Stakes $100,000 didn’t hurt either.

STEVEN SPIELBERG LOVES THEM TOO: Hollywood continues to be enamored with the power of headwear. According to USA Weekend Magazine mighty movie mogul Seven Spielberg is a big hat fan of hats. “Spielberg wears many hats…in fact he collects them – the guy could probably open a museum one day. For now, they are scrunched up in an armoire. One favorite (he wore it for about seven years!) is from Class of ’61, his failed pilot for ABC. Most are gifts from family, friends or civic groups he’s worked with.”
HELLO FOLKS…someone send this man a hat rack. And while you’re at it, what about making some visors or caps with different graduating dates…like “Class of 71,” or “Class of 85.”
