Patriotism Pays Off in Headwear:
Kathy Jeanne Inc. is finding that their “Made in the USA” status is now paying off with customers. Jay Gerish, President and Marketing Director of Kathy Jeanne, recently hosted a tour of his NJ plant and cheers erupted when he mentioned that the hats were made in America. “The past few years, more and more people are not only asking us where the hats are made, but are showing their pleasure and support when they are told they are made in the USA. Our retailers have also been asking for American made products and it seems their customers are asking where the merchandise is made.”

Our Hats are Off to Kathy Jeanne….
We met Jay Gerish, President and Marketing Director of Kathy Jeanne Inc. at the Accessory Show last week. His enthusiasm and good manners were a welcome addition to the shows. Thank you Jay.

FASHION THAT CHANGES WITH THE WIND:
Saien Marunaka, a small garment maker in North Western Japan has created a shirt that changes colors when the sun changes hues. Made in 65 percent polyester, 25 percent cotton and 5 percent poly, the men’s and ladies’ shirt changes color with the intensity of the sun’s rays. The manufacturer hopes that consumers will use the shirts as a UV barometer; a change from light pink to light blue will indicate the presence of excessive, harmful UV rays.

The shirts are made in a special technology based on photochromic dyes that respond to variations in exposure to UV light (primarily sunlight). Both materials are reversible and will change colors over and over again with the appropriate exposure.
