IT’S SHOWTIME IN THE ACCESSORY MARKET: The Accessorie Circuit show is at the Show Piers on the Hudson in NYC from 8/2 to 8/4 NYC, as well as the Intermezzo Collections and Direction Show 8/2 to 8/4. August 7 to 9 is the Chicago Men’s Wear Collective at the Chicago Apparel Center.

 

 

HEADWEAR PLAY CONTINUES TO GLORIFY WOMEN AND THEIR HATS: The millinery retrospective “Crowns” is still playing at the Arena Stage in Washington, and was recently profiled in the Washington Post. The play, by Regina Taylor and Craig Marberry is adapted from a book of photographs by Michael Cunningham. It follows testimonials from women about their hats and the relationship to church going. It is running through August 7 at the Arena Stage, call 202-488-3300.

HATS ARE HOT: Retailer Aaron Hats, located in the tourist village of North Conway, NH (in its third year of business) reports that the first six months of 2005 there has been a 60% increase in sales.   • World famous English milliner Philip Treacy was in town and spoke to Eia's hat design students. “He was very generous with his time, and was an inspiration to the budding milliners.
  • New York hat designer Eric Javits selected the SAIC millinery program for a generous donation of over fifty wooden hat blocks.
  • CHAPEAU: The Milliners Guild awarded the 2005 Headwear Design Award to senior Max Lohrbach for his exceptional designs and workmanship. Max and the 2nd and 3rd place winners will continue to show their work there through October.

PARTY IT UP: A live fashion and art event called Velvet Crush will be held on July 23 at the Backyard Gallery in the village of Mendocino.

GREEN BAY PACKERS GO PINK: The Green Bay Packers are selling pink caps to raise money to fight breast cancer. Five dollars from each $15 hat sold is being given to Wisconsin cancer charities.
