YANKEE CAPS STOLEN: According
to a Newsday article, “Cap caper: Yankees
can’t hold on to hats,” Thieves hijacked
a shipment of 47,000 Yankee caps that were supposed
to be fan giveaways at two upcoming games. “Yankee
caps can cost $18 or more on the streets of New
York — a price that would make the street
value of the pilfered shipment nearly $850,000
— something about making off with this particular
batch of paraphernalia struck some as not only
unpleasant, but also possibly off-base.”
The Yankees noted that half of the cap shipment
did arrive safely and promised to place a cap
or a voucher “in the hands of every deserving
fan,” according to the team’s Web
site.
