NEW YORK GETS NEW HAT STORE
There’s a new hat store in Corning
New York called VIZORS. Started
by Kim Brucie and Georgina Santilli, the store
sells hats, scarves, gloves, umbrellas, jewelry,
socks and small accessory goods. Their goal is
to infuse a sense of old world charm with new
world retail sensibility.
The 900 square foot store has a 1900-era tin
ceiling and an exposed brick wall from the same
era. One of the shop's best sellers is a women's
hat that can be worn six different ways. Their
average sale has been between $20 and $30.
They carry casual knit caps and structured hats
for men and women, some are even unisex. "It's
like a department store with a family feel to
it," said Brucie. "We have a huge selection
for young people."
They are also plan on carrying Stetson hats
and Western boots, starting with children's boots.
The inspiration to open a store came from Santilli’s
husband Greg, who owns a Western boot store in
Fairfax, Virginia (that also sells hats). Because
the shop is across the street from the Information
Center of Corning, it is the perfect site tourists
(and a good test site for merchandise). "For
the last five years, this has been a diminishing
street," Brucie said. "We want to get
people back to shopping on Market Street."
