THE
NEED TO BE DIFFERENT HAS BLOSSOMED
The need to be different has blossomed to its
zenith among young people today. Whether T-shirts
or hats, this generation of individuals demands
that they have their own “say.” This
sense of difference makes them indifferent to
mass produced products. There are many new companies
catering to this moneyed consumer who dances to
their own beat.
We found a new company at Magic that exemplifies
this one-of-a-kind sensibility. Called
I’MTD, it stands for “I’m Totally
Different.” The large collection
of caps and hats is made by Harmony out of China
and features novelty ideas such as baseball caps
with charms dangling from a chain on the side
of the cap. The also have a knitted visor embroidered
with I’MTD. This is the consumer who is
tired of marketing messages and uniformity. They
are similar to the hippie’s of the 60’s,
yet they are more marketing savvy than their peace
loving kin of yesteryear. This is the same generation
